As I have pointed out in my last blog, we are going to be taking a closer look at how to tell ants from termites so that you know what you are up against.

One of the differences that are the easiest to detect is that ants have a narrow waist while termites do not. Furthermore, many ants do not have wings while termites do.

The wings of of ants (those that have them) are significantly longer at the front compared to the back pair. On the other hand termites’ wings are of equal length and fold directly backwards down the body.

In addition, their antennae are different as well. While ants have antennae that are rigid don’t bend and look like fine pearls, termites have antennae that are flexible, bend and are more visible.

All of this, of course, only helps if you are able to detect the termites in your Mesa home, and often you won’t be able to see them, because termites likes to live in your walls and destroy them from the inside out.

Fortunately there are other tell tale signs that termites are present which are fairly easy to spot. One way to tell that you are dealing with a Mesa termite infestation is if you spot small wings abandoned around the home, because termites shed their wings after they have swarmed. This is one of the top signs that you are dealing with a termite infestation. Most commonly these wings can be found on windowsills of your home or near the lights.

Other fairly obvious signs of termites in your home include the appearance of mud tubes, and hollow sounding walls. Buckling paint and tiny, needle sized holes in your walls, could be other indicators of a termite infestation. Your Mesa termite control professional will be able to assess your home for termite activity and advise you of a course to action.

You want to control a termite population in your home or building as soon as possible. Termites are the cause behind billions of dollars in damages to homes and business all over the U.S. every year. Additionally, they may attract other pest infestations (such as scorpions) to follow suit, as those like to feast on termites and other small insects. If you eradicate termites early on, you are better of all around.
